Behavior Policy
- General Guidelines
- This policy applies to customers of all ages
- There shall be no discrimination of any kind in the application of this policy
- Permitted Behavior
- Behavior is permitted which does not disturb or infringe on the rights of other
library customers or staff and is not prohibited by law.
- Persons who because of a handicap or disability must speak and/or be spoken to
in a loud voice shall be allowed to do so.
- sleeping is allowed providing other customers are not disturbed.
- Game playing is allowed, providing other customers are not disturbed.
- Drinking of non-alcoholic beverages is allowed, provided the drinks are in covered containers.
- Eating is allowed, provided the area is left clean after eating.
- Prohibited Behavior and Consequence
- Food preparation is not allowed
- Running and noisy activities are prohibited
- Conversation must be kept low enough so that other customers are not disturbed. During busy times,
the Library Board may enforce a stricter standard in this regard.
Loud talking is prohibited.
- Harassment of other customers or of library staff through abusive language, touching, following or staring
is prohibited.
- Customers whose bodily hygiene is offensive so as to constitute a nuisance to other persons
may be required to leave the building. Such a nuisance exists where hygiene is unreasonable
under the circumstances, and substantially and objectively interferes with other people's use of the library.
- Smoking is prohibited.
- Cell phone conversations and cell phone ringers must be kept low enough so that others are not disturbed
- Pets are not allowed inside the library. Service animals are allowed.
- Bicycles are not allowed inside the library and are to be parked in the bicycle rack
provided on the East side of the Building.
- Bicycles shall not be left anywhere on the east entrance ramp because they would make
the entrance inaccessible.
- Skateboarding and rollerblading are prohibited on library grounds. Library customers may bring
their rollerblades and skateboards in the library for safekeeping provided they are not used
in the library.
- Customers in violation of this policy, or otherwise breaking the law or causing a disturbance in the library
will be asked to leave the building and library grounds. Persons refusing to leave will be
referred to the Police Department for removal.
- Enforcement
- The responsibility for interpretation and enforcement of this policy rests with
the Library Director.
- The Library Board approves the hiring of a Library Monitor for assistance
in the enforcement of this policy.
